The Dinky Covered Wagon. A very rare DT Van that was issued for the American market for just one year. It was never shown in catalogues, except on a typewritten price list issued with the 1950 USA edition catalogue, for HH Dobson, US distributor. The number assigned was 25BM officially in the list. This van is based on a 25B covered van reissued post-war and painted in olive drab with silver headlights.
This one is similar to the South African Defence Forces issue, which is all painted in olive drab including the headlights, and sometimes it's confused with the American issue. This latter was requested by the SADF for training purposes with other models. The chassis is of the 4th. type all solid and has die cast bumpers. available in olive drab finish. There were two major casting changes, three ridges were added to centre of roof, and the base inscription was changed from "Dinky Toys" to "Dinky Supertoys". The Dinky Army Covered Wagon. The first production of this popular model was without a driver, released in March 1954 with a price of 3/7. This price remained constant until June 1955 when it was increased to 4/-. Another increase occurred in April 1956 to 4/3, which dropped to 4/2 in May 1959. In May 1961 it was increased to 4/6, and a year later to 4/8. The Covered Wagon made its last appearance in the May 1962 catalogue, and had been deleted by the end of that year. It was based on the World War II Bedford 3-ton QL truck which was the most common British-made 4x4 truck for British Forces between 1941 and 1945. The Dinky Centurion Tank. Released April 1954 with a UK price of 7/11. This Tank last appeared in the May 1970 catalogue priced at 12/11 or 64.5p. It was originally packaged in a blue striped box, but this was replaced with a yellow lidded Dinky Toys box in 1956, but by 1957, the box had reverted to blue-striped but now labelled DINKY SUPERTOYS. This box style was then changed to a yellow and black lift-off box with a battle scene occupying half of the lid. The final box, cheaper to produce had end flaps with a battle scene occupying two sides, and by then, it had reverted to being a DINKY TOYS. The Dinky Mighty Antar Tank Transporter. Released June 1956, priced at 17/11 in the model shown. The box changed to the familiar blue and white striped in November 1956. Windows were added towards the end of 1960, by which time the price had dropped to 13/11. After windows were incorporated, the price rose to 14/6. Shown also is the last issue of this famous model. It has windows, and a modified trailer that was re-designed to accommodate the 908 Mighty Antar Transporter with Transformer. The modifications included an additional tab and bar to support the transformer, and tie-down protrusions underneath. Painted military green, the trailer replaced the original in the last year of production, 1964. With the re-designed trailer, it became detacheable from the tractor unit, a feature that was not possible with the earlier issues. The model's last catalogue appearance was in the August 1964 issue when it was priced at 15/6. This was a very popular model as shown by the price decrease over a span of eight years. (new francs), about 11/-, the 72mm long model depicted the Panhard AML HE 60-7, which had a breach mortar and two machine guns. Panhard produced this highly successful 4x4 for over 30 countries. Powered by a Peugeot engine (petrol or diesel), the vehicle could achieve 90 Km/h on the road, with a range of 600Km.
